Transforming Space: Permaculture and Direct Action
A discussion about transforming urban space. From liberating busy city streets to allow the human movement of dance, to emancipating the earth below our feet for growing food, this conversation will explore the many ways in which we can create environments that foster community, ecology, and vitality, right here in the concrete jungle.
Come hear stories from the occupy farm, renegade festivals, the struggle to save neighborhood gardens, and politically-active tent cities, and share some of your own. We'll talk about future plans for a Bay Area Village Building Convergence and the creation of greenhouses, plant nurseries, urban farms, and accessible kitchens in each and every square mile of the places we inhabit.

Economics of Abundance: The Sharing Economy and Re-claiming the Commons
In this interactive gathering, we will explore the many emerging manifestations of the sharing economy and how a return to the age-old process of "commoning" of-fers a positive path towards a sustainable, equitable and fulfilling future. Using Open Space technology, we will call upon our collective intelligence to both imagine and co-create that possible world.
A recent transplant to the East Bay, Chris is passionate about exploring life-sustaining alternatives to the neo-liberal market paradigm. As a contributor to SELC’s Community Currencies Program, he is helping to weave together a network of new economy practitioners by sup-porting the growth of timebanks, complementary curren-cies, barter systems and local gift economies.
Chris recently completed an MA in Economics for Transi-ion at Schumacher College, an international whole-person learning community near Totnes, UK. While in the UK, he was active in Occupy London’s Energy, Equity and Environment working group and helped guide a community exploration of exchange alternatives in Totnes. His dissertation focused on alternatives to market-based ‘development’ and climate change adaptation in the Global South. He enjoys working at the nexus of social justice, ecological regeneration, and economic collaboration. http://theselc.org
Carnal Gnosis: The Way of the Magic Mushroom
Magic mushrooms have had a tremendous influence on human cultural evolution: inspiring ancient religions, mystery schools, yogis, healers, and artists for many thou-sands of years. Abundant evidence suggests magic mushrooms also provided the evolutionary spark that catalyzed pre-historic humans to create the complex lan-guage, symbolism, spirituality and social structures that distinguish us from our primate ancestors. And the mush-rooms still have things to teach us today…
Carnal Gnosis is a system of training and preparing your physical body, mind and nervous system (the “carnal” self) to receive energy and information from a higher or-der of consciousness accessible through magic mush-rooms (the experience of “gnosis”).
Building on the work of Terrence Mckenna and others to clear a path for modern myconauts to develop a deeper connection with the mushroom. Tapping into its true po-tential as a teacher, medicine, creative catalyst and incorruptible fungal guru...
Carl Gnosis has been exploring with mushrooms for 15 years and has been practicing yoga since 2001. He has a BA in psychology, has received three personal training certifications and has worked as a mental health coun-elor, teacher and filmmaker. He currently works as a metaphysical therapist and creative consultant and lives in Berkeley.

Permaculture is characterized by a set of principles to help guide sustainable design, grounded in the ways in which the earth's living systems operate, and aligned with the place-based understanding of indigenous peoples. Chong Kee Tan & Kendra Chanley, Bay Bucks
Creating a community currency for the Bay Area
There are thousands of community currencies in different regions of the globe: Berkshares in Massachu-setts, Brixton Pound in England, TEM in Greece to name a few. So what are some reasons a community currency fails and what features should it have to maximize its chances of success? Dr. Tan will discuss these ques-tions and introduce Bay Bucks, a community currency that he co-founded with Kendra Shanley.
http://www.bay-bucks.com
Dr. Chong Kee Tan has been an activist for almost 20 years, working in the area of Asian democracy, press freedom, censorship, and in the area of equal rights and sustainability. After the 2008 financial crisis, he began studying our financial and monetary systems and quickly came to realize that changing these systems could help address many of the most pressing problems facing the world today. He started Bay Bucks as a TransitionSF project to address these problems and help make the Bay Area more resilient. Chong Kee received his BA (Hons) in Computer Science from Cambridge University and his PhD in Chinese Litera-ture from Stanford University.
Kendra Shanley has a background in Biology and In-ternational Health Sciences. After completing her MSc in Parasitology in London, she moved to the Bay Area and worked in STD/HIV prevention and public health research for several years. During this time, she be-came increasingly concerned for the future of our communities in the face of environmental degradation and a faltering economy. Transition SF led her to at-tend a December 2011 workshop with author Charles Eisenstein (Sacred Economics: Money, Gift, and Community in an Age of Transition), which inspired her to quit working in public health in order to begin re-searching local and complementary currencies. She discovered that many of the needs of the community, including access to health services, could be most readily and sustainably addressed through a flourishing local currency. After meeting Chong Kee earlier this year, she found a dedicated partner with whom to start Bay Bucks.
Corey Rosen, Perma-Culture Commu-nity Network and Digital Renaissance Faire
The Perma-Culture Community Network is an organization focused on creating non-monetary based communities through permaculture education and bringing them into an organizational structure. The communities within the network will provide the excesses they have to other communities within the network. The goal of the PCCN is to have thousands of people living in symbiosis within these communities all over the country and eventually the world.
The Digital Renaissance Faire, being the first of its kind, is a community based educational collaborative art festival that considers everyone a participant, bringing their piece of the tapestry to be woven into the fabric of the event. All aspects of the event will be created in a collaborative effort, bringing people together to produce amazing works of art in all areas combining Live Music, Electronic Music, and Visual Performance Art.
Corey Rosen is a production manager with 15 years experience in the professional sector who was then diagnosed with a permanent brain injury. Since the government has been fighting his disability claim for over almost three years, Corey has decided not to be-come a victim of the system, but instead, create an alternative system for those in similar situations with similar feelings on the current state of our system. Corey feels the long term goals of the Perma-Culture Community Network could help in providing a more stable economic situation for those wanting to strengthen our current system.

Alok Rocheleau, Rock Water Healing Arts
Well being is about finding balance and harmony in each moment. Being like a rock - still, grounded, and patient; and the water - flowing with grace and ease. When there is balance between these qualities one can find the power of both strength and surrender. Healing begins with awareness of internal imbalances. Bodywork, yoga, connecting with nature, dance, and meditation help maintain a healthy balance and wellness. Once this balance is established there is freedom and ease. I am here to assist people to find this balance in body and mind. As I go on this journey myself I humbly offer bodywork, yoga instruction, flying lessons, and adven-tures in nature with awareness and education. http://www.rockwaterhealingarts.com/

Permaculture is characterized by a set of principles to help guide sustainable design, grounded in the ways in which the earth's living systems operate, and aligned with the place-based understanding of indigenous peoples. It is typically applied to gardens and small-scale farming, but also informs how we order and operate our organizations and communities. Come with your perma-knowledge and insights!
Facilitator David Jaber is a consultant at inNative (http://www.innative.net), with almost 15 years experience in systems thinking, environmental performance analytics, site assessments, green building operations and climate action with business, tribal, and local government clients. He holds a M.S. in Environmental Engineering, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and spends significant amounts of time cycling and in urban agriculture in the East Bay. http://innative.net/
